Sachin Tendulkar

Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar became the first batsman to score over 12000 runs in ODIs. He achieved this unique record in a match against Pakistan at Centurion (South Africa) on March 1, 2003. He is also the highest scorer in a World Cup (571 runs) bettering his own previous record of 523 runs in the 1996 World Cup.

 

Dragila Sets New World Record in Pole Vault

Reigning Olympic Champion Stacy Dragila (USA) set a new World Indoor record in the Women’s Pole Vault event. She cleared the record-breaking 4.78 metre at the US Indoor Athletic Championships in Boston on March 2, 2003, erasing Svetlana Feofanova’s record of 4.75 metre set at Birmingham, England.

 

WBA Heavyweight Championship

Roy Jones Jr., undisputed World Light heavy weight Champion, won the WBA Heavyweight Championship title, defeating John Ruiz by a unanimous 12-round decision in Las Vegas (USA) on March 1, 2003. Jones created history in the ‘heavyweight’ category, becoming the first former Middleweight Champion since 1897 to capture this title.
