INSPIRING ANECDOTES

King George V of England and his sister Princess Victoria were in the habit of having a brief chat on the telephone every morning. These chats were very personal, informal and often of a humorous nature. One morning the phone rang as usual and the Princess picked up the receiver and said, "Hello, you old fool!"

The voice of the operator broke in, "I beg your pardon, Your Royal Highness, His Majesty is not on the line."

At the close of the premiere performance of Arms and the Man, Bernard Shaw was called upon to take a bow. As he stepped forward upon the stage amidst the applause, a loud voice shouted from the balcony, "Come, come, Shaw! You know all this stuff is balderdas!."

Shaw looked up toward the balcony and called out, "I quite agree with you, my friend, but who are you and I against so many?"

In Champaran the labourers were suffering from many injustices and atrocities at the hands of the white planters. Gandhiji’s inquiry into this sad plight of the workers began to breathe new hope into their hearts. Everyone except the white planters was happier.

Someone reported to Gandhiji: "The planter at this place is the worst of the lot. He is bent upon finishing you off. He has engaged several assassins."

So one night Gandhiji went to the bungalow of the planter all alone and said: "I hear that you have employed assassins to kill me. That is why I have come to your house alone and in secret."
