David Bowie
And Tin Machine...can't forget Tin Machine!
Mila's God
I grew up listening to his music. I've always loved him, I think. Granted, it was Labyrinth that made me decide that I was going to marry him. Something about his snide remarks and that makeup...And he ages so well. The man is 50 years old and he still looks good! He's immortal I tell you!
I know any obsure tidbit about him that exists. From his torried affair with Mic Jagger to the truth behind his eyes. I have most of his albums, a scrap book, rare shit, vinyl, movies, posters, books, anything I can get my hands on.
Bowie inspires me. He does what he does and doesn't give a fuck. It's his music. It comes from his heart, and that's all that matters. If you like it, then that's great, if you don't, then he doesn't care.
He's always been before his time. He sets the standards for a lot of things, and paves the way for a lot more. He has real talent. he writes, sings, plays the instruments-he does it all. He becomes his music. Plus he has really good fashion sense! And his stage presence is knee-buckling...
Each album is innovative. Fresh, new. Part of why he's never really been mainstream. He tries new things all the time, and all his stuff always sounds different. People are afraid of change. Not me, I love it. I love that I dont hear the same things from him with every new album. Every song really. There's a constant wave of change within him, and it reflects in his music. His sounds vary from soft and melodic, sweet, almost tearful to bass driven, angst filled.
Anything from this man is gold. Well, ok, early on he did this thing with his hair that made him look like a poodle, and I'd like to meet him and discuss his thinking at that time, but other than that it's all been good.
He had this project for a while, called Tin Machine. The sounds put together by him and this group were fabulous, but they broke up over stupid shit. It's too bad, because they were really good. Then again, we might not have the albums we have today if they didn't split. Tin Machine has a very distinct jazz backing to it. You have to know what you're listening for to hear it, but it's there.
I've been trying to meet David Bowie for....a really long time now. I've had no luck. This is my dream in life. To meet and talk with this man. I just want to sit down and have a conversation with him. Hang out. That sort of thing. ok, so maybe I'd have him sign a lot of the shit I have...but I'm a fan for chrissake. What do you expect from me?
