American Psycho
Sanity VS Insanity...what's chic?
Mila's Favorite Book, Therefore, Mila's Feelings
So, if you were psychotic, would you A- let it all out and do what you're little heart deisred, or B- hold it in the best you could, putting off this air for the rest of the world while you take minimal pleasures in occasional slaughterings?
Patrick Bateman picked b.
Why, do you ask?
Let me tell you.
Our friend Patrick Bateman has an obsession with order. With neatness. With perfection. Is he OCD? Why yes, he is. Everything has to be just so. His apartment, his clothes, his life, him. Not one thing can be out of place. So when his psychopathic tendancies surface, he represses them. Oh, sure, he has his moments when he cannot just help but let them slip through in his words. His attitude towards other people. But that's all just a part of his charm.
Patrick has his occasional overwhelming need. Sometimes he just has to kill someone. So he does it. And he gets away with it. Why shouldn't he? He's an upstanding, rich, contributing member of society. Who would ever suspect him of anything foul? No one. He's a master at what he does. He takes steps to make sure that he leaves no trace of any sign of violence. His compulsion for clean pays off big in this way.
He's wealthy, has a good job, he's handsome, smart. He's evil, sadistic and manipulative. Hell, he manages to kill a man and move into his apartment, taking up his existance for the benefit of two prostitutes that he later kills. He's the perfect man.
You just have to look past the fact that he's utterly trendy, won't accept anything in his life but the most beautiful, the most stylish, the most expensive and the most perfect. This is a man who thinks spending any less than a hunded dollars for a meal is a waste of time.
