The 'Swerve Zone' Sign

By Alice F.

Many people are not able to identify signs. For some odd reason, most people think that the above sign indicates Slippery when wet. However, there are a selected few of us knowledgeable individuals who know the true meaning of this sign. The sign I am speaking of is the Swerve Zone sign. The concept and basis of the sign is simple actually. When an individual is driving down the street, and the Swerve Zone sign comes into view, that individual must immediately start swerving. This swerving must be continuous until a sign that signifies to stop swerving appears.
The problem with the nation today is that many dim-witted people do not follow the Swerve Zone sign.
For example, a man is driving down a rural street. Everything is going splendidly until the Swerve Zone sign appears in his field of vision. Being the uneducated, nave person he is, the man slows his vehicle. Luckily, our remarkable police force arrives. The officer then confronts the man, asking, May I see your license and registration please? The man is becoming increasingly nervous as he hands over his legal documents. Is there a problem officer? the man asks. The officer is now offended that the delinquent does not know what his crime was. May I ask why you were reducing the speed of your vehicle? the officer questions. Well this is a Slippery when wet zone, officer, the man replies. The officer is now annoyed at the mans stupidity. Any skilled driver that went to Drivers Education would know that this is a Swerve Zone. The man is speechless. The officer then continues, You were not swerving in a Swerve Zone. You have broken a law. You should have started swerving more than a mile ago. The man finally finds his voice. A Swerve Zone?!?! The officer is angry, irritated, and insulted. I was going to let you off the hook with a warning, but now Im not so sure. Not swerving in a Swerve Zone is a serious offense, especially when the violator has an attitude. The officer then bestows the kiss of death. You are a wrongdoer and you shall be fined.
This whole situation could have been avoided if the driver was educated on his road signs, especially the Swerve Zone sign. If only everyone was educated on their swerving, similar to the few students at Boone Grove Drivers Education, then the world would be a better place. Remember, its up to you to swerve.
