Hello fans, I'm Paul Steakhouse and I'm here inside of the America West Arena, the site of tomorrow night's first ever SDW Overdrive card. Before I get to the preview, let me fill you in on some interesting bits of information that I've managed to find out.![]()
Apparently, the wrestlers were due to arrive here at 7am, and the majority of them have arrived on time. However, one noticeable absence is that of Dan Klitz. This leads me to believe that he will be a no show for tomorrow night's Overdrive, but with Klitz, you really never know.
Cryus Cross has been grumbling about the management as it relates to him being booked. I am not sure what the problem is, but he's been in an extremely bad mood ever since he got here, and the last I saw him, he was storming into President Smart's office.
Jason Hellfield's entrance into SDW has definitely raised some eyebrows. Some of the regulars in this territory definitely perceive him as a threat. I think that someone might even be trying to take him out. About an hour ago, I ran into a wrestler who to my knowledge is not under contract to SDW. This man definitely has a past history with Hellfield from GWA, and when I asked him what he was doing here, he responded...."settling an old score". Take that as you will.
I was also able to get a couple minutes of time with Hoke Smart. He seems extremely excited about tonight's debut show. He told me that the arena sold out, which probably is in large part to the guaranteed appearance of Liger tonight. He also mentioned that him and President Haynie were really close to signing a national television deal with fx sports to help out the SDW fans on the East Coast.
Lastly, my jaw dropped to the floor when I spotted another familiar face backstage today. I couldn't get close enough to get a few words with him, but I suspect he's signed with SDW, and could debut as early as tonight. If he does, it will be a HUGE boost for SDW.
That's pretty much it as far as what's going on backstage today. Allow me to do a quick rundown of the card for tomorrow night.
The first match listed on the program card is a tag team match between Corey Simmons/Cody Powell and Team Shockwave. I wouldn't be surprised if this match doesn't go off as planned, because management is extremely upset with both team's lack of effort thusfar.
Next up is Jason Hellfield taking on Shadow. These two men hate each other, a rivalry that goes all the way back to their days in GWA. On the last house show, Shadow made his debut, attacking Hellfield after he was victorious in his match. This should be an intriguing match, considering the fact that I ran into another old enemy of Hellfield's from the GWA earlier today. Keep an eye on this one.
Johnny Cyanide vs Carson Walker is listed on the program, but I have yet to see either man in the arena. It's a possibility that they could just be running late, but from the looks of things, this match may not happen either. It's a shame too, because it would be a great match.
I'm really looking forward to Cryus Cross vs Joey Fury. This is Fury's debut in SDW, as he hasn't been in action since he really burst onto the scene in HIW. Everyone has been calling him the next big superstar, and now is his time to prove it.
Shane Matthew vs Carter Caldwell could very well steal the show. These two cruiserweights can flat out get it done in the ring. I look for a great high flying matchup that won't leave the fans disappointed.
As I mentioned before, Dan Klitz has yet to arrive here, so the Dan Klitz vs Ghosthand match could be in jeapardy. Come to think of it, Ghosthand hasn't been seen in weeks either. This could turn into a major story, because President Smart has already been clear in the fact that anyone who no shows tomorrow night's card will be suspended. In my opinion, SDW can't afford to lose Dan Klitz OR Ghosthand, as they are two major players here.
Lastly, we've got our main event, a match I'm really looking forward to, Liger vs Legacy. The crowd will be hot for this one, and from what I've seen in the back, both men are ready. The fans will definitely get their money's worth here.
That's all from America West Arena. If any further developments go down, I'll keep you informed. Enjoy Overdrive tonight.
