Friday Night, CEWL presented it's first ever show entitled Dissension, broadcasted live from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario Canada. Here's the rundown of what happened.
Opening segment: President Killian comes out, rips the crowd for a while until he's interrupted by 002. 002 starts shooting on Killian about a past experience in CEWL until he's interrupted by Drakestone. Drakestone goes on to talk about how he is going to lead the new generation of wrestlers in CEWL, but he's not without some help. His partner DOOM enters the ring, and hits both 002 and Killian with his finisher, RAGNOK. Doom and Drakestone pretty much leave them laying.
Alright, not a bad way to open up things, as it does a good job of establishing that 002, Doom, and Drakestone are going to be major players. I haven't seen enough of these men to pass judgement yet, but it looks like a good start.
Dru Lashbrook d Anton Bailey with the Manifesto.
Solid match, we've all seen Anton Bailey before, but this Lashbrook guy was able to get the job done against him, so that must mean something for him. Not bad at all.
Hayabusa shows up in the ring with an entourage. His attourney Mr. Gartlan, his spiritual advisor Jaysus Christ, Mini Busa, and last but not least Granny, straight from the ghetto. He basically tries to shill himself to the fans, lots of wacky stuff here.
Everyone knows that I'm not the biggest fan of Busa, but this stuff was great. Every character in his entourage plays a perfect foil to another member, and I see great things coming from this. The whole segment was hilarious, and Busa has the kind of starpower CEWL needs.
002 d DOOM with a roll up. President Killian had come down to the ring to try and hit DOOM with a chair, but Drakestone came down and clobbered him from behind. While DOOM was distracted, 002 rolled him up for the win. After the match, Killian managed to escape, but Drakestone came down to the ring, and both he and DOOM pretty much destroyed 002.
Good stuff here. I really liked the continuity, that's something that often lacks in a fed, especially a new one.
Strato Stevens d Adrian Cuzzi and Vance with a northern lights suplex on Cuzzi. Cuzzi had eliminated Vance first, and when it looked like Cuzzi had the match in control, Vance came back down to the ring, and clobbered Cuzzi, allowing Stevens to get the win.
More good stuff here, I'm really liking what I see so far. Another decent match, and what looks to be the beginning of another fued between Vance and Adrian Cuzzi.
Drakestone d Shane Lonestar and Zero after President Killian comes down to the ring with a chair, and accidentally hits Lonestar with the chair instead of Drakestone. After the match, The Terror Squad, Shawn Garcia and Jason Mentiz make their debut, and lay out Drakestone. They get on the mic, and call DOOM out. DOOM comes out with a chair, and the two men scatter as the show ends.
Good match, but I'm not a big fan of the ending to the show. I have no problem with the president having an on air role, but having him be THE central figure might not be a good idea. However, I could overlook that, considering that a Killian/002 vs Drakestone/DOOM fued seemed to be pushed, until The Terror Squad showed up. I like the idea that a tag fued has been established, but if you start pushing Drake/DOOM in one program, you shouldn't push them into another. Anyway, that's really my only complaint.
OVERALL: GREAT first show. I came into it expecting nothing, and got a lot. The seeds for several fueds have been planted, and the debut of Hayabusa definitely adds to the overall strength of the roster. It looks like Dru Lashbrook, 002, Strato Stevens, and Drakestone will battle it out next week in the semifinal round of the world title tournament. If this is a sign of things to come, then CEWL has a great future.
