Mourningcloak Butterfly
The
insect that I had to research was the Mourningcloak butterfly.
I
learned its front legs are much smaller then other insects. The
mourning cloak butterfly has big long wings that are about 6-10 cm.
or 2.5- 4 in. The Mourningcloaks wings are reddish brown almost
black looking with a yellow border and blue. The head, thorax and
abdomen are brown almost black in color. This butter fly can survive
during the winter because she hides in trees and freezes
(hibernation). The mourningcloak's caterpillar comes out from the egg
and they stay together on the same plant. The group can eat a lot so
they can destroy the plant as they are going through their life
cycle. The mourningcloak butterfly likes tree sap but especially from
an oak tree. The adult butterflies can also feed from flower nectar
and sap. Most of the mourningcloak eating diet comes from fruit but
they can also be found eating animal droppings. Morning cloak
butterflies can be found just about anywhere. They can bee seen in
North America, Europe and even Asia. Their live cycle ends in 10-11
months then the process starts all over gain.
The
insect that I had to research was the Praying Mantis. The Praying
Mantis enjoys eating all types of insects because they are
carnivorous. This could include eating other Praying Mantises like
them. The Praying Mantis lives in vegetation that could be found in
warm wooden areas such as prairies, jungles or forest. The Praying
Mantis has very good eyesight. Female Praying Mantis cant fly
because of the weight of the 300 eggs they carry in the abdomen. The
female mantis is one of the largest insects in the world. Most of
the baby mantises are born in the spring because eggs are laid in the
fall. Praying Mantis let humans stroke their backs. Praying Mantis
are good insects because they can eat bad insects that can do harm to
your plants. When they attack their prey they like to bite the back
so they can paralyze it. They also eat their prey while its still
alive. I learned very interesting facts about Praying Mantis.
