Bathroom Door & Mirror |

The Scamp's MDF door for the "privacy room" wasn't very attractive. I wanted something that provided ventilation so the towels we hang just inside the door can dry and which matched the other door and drawer fronts I'd made. I also wanted a full-length mirror that integrated into the design. |

The front side of the door. The wavy IKEA mirror sets flush with the cherry stained poplar strips on either side.
The punched aluminum panels (from Lowes) on either side of the mirror provide ventilation. |
|
The backside of the door. The accent stripe in the middle is cherry-stained oak. You can also see the towel rails at the top and middle of the door. |

This is the front side of the door just before I applied stain. You get a glimpse of the door's three-layer construction in the mirror cutout. The door is constructed with 1/4" thick cherry-stained hardwood on the front and back of the door glued to a skeleton made from a 1/8" thick plywood door skin.
The door skin pieces are flush at the outer edges but set back in the panel openings to allow rectangles of punched aluminum to slide in. |

The punched aluminum panels allow air to circulate and dry the towels hanging inside the door; the towels also act as privacy curtains. |
