Chapter 12
A New Life

Chloe made her way through the crowded dorm. She was finally in collage. It had taken a lot to make ends meet. Between the money she had had in her bank account and the money she had received from the tour she had nearly one hundred thousand dollars. Out of that she had to pay for her dorm, her classes, and other necessities. She had also taken a job at the local collage hangout called The Campus Caf. She even got along with her roommate, Kate.
But, despite her promise, she hadnt contacted JC yet. She dreaded the reaction she would get. She had to admit that it was awfully cowardly to leave like that. Never the less, a week after she had settled she picked up the phone and dialed JCs number.
Hello? the familiar voice answered.
Hey JC, Chloe greeted him. It's Chloe.
How are you? JC sounded happy to hear from her.
Im fine, Chloe answered. I enrolled at Michigan State University.
Really? Thats great, JC told her. You know, we going to be close to Lancing in a few days and we would all love to see you.
Are you sure all of you would? Chloe asked hesitantly.
Hes been worried about you, JC informed her. After he heard the whole story he tried to find you.
Chloe was silent for so long that JC asked, Are you still there?
Yeah, Im here, Chloe answered. JC, it would never be the same. He would never trust me again.
Im sure you would manage, JC disagreed.
No, JC, Chloe insisted. I ruined everything.
Its none of my business, JC began tentatively, but youve both made mistakes. I think you guys should just talk.
He didnt do anything, Chloe said. Im the one who lied. OK. Chloe rattled off her phone number. Oh, and JC, dont tell Chris I called. Im just not ready.
You owe me for this one, JC notified her.
Thanks, JC. Chloes voice was shaking. Goodbye.
Bye.
Chloe hung up the phone before her tears began to flow. She missed him, but she was beginning a new life and she couldnt look back.
