I purchased this envelope from E-BAY, and with my colleague Sue Trout explored its history.
The envelope was posted in Estcourt, Natal, in 1900, probably from a relative or boyfriend, serving in the forces during The Boer War. The 1901 census of the Chester Asylum shows that there were two sisters, working as nursing orderlies at that time Margaret and Bridget. The 1891 census shows that these ladies are sisters and were living in Flintshire at 13 Chapel street, Flint, and that their father, Mother, and brother Patrick were born in Ireland. They also had another sister Elizabeth.
