My story is only but one, that can be told!
In September of 2004, we here in NW Florida,
was hit by a devasatating hurricane.
Of course, there were other parts of Florida
hit by other hurricanes, but we were hit the worse.
If you view the pictures from the News Journal on the links
page, you will see all the carnage that this hurricane brought us.

As push pins were busily tracking the storm,
everyone was holding their breath that
this big one would go somewhere else.
But it wasnt meant to be, it was our turn!
As the power went off the night before,
We were in the dark as to what was going on.
With a supply of candles, batteries for the radio,
And all the important stuff in a safe place,
All you can do now, is to wait!
Now the weather reports were getting bad.
It looked like we were going to take a direct hit.
And that is what happened!
Around 10:00 pm, we began to get the rains.
And then the winds came!
Blowing and howling!
It was a moonless night and with no power,
Nothing could be seen outside
But oh the sounds!!!

Then the winds were really picking up,
We starting hearing things being blown around!
For hours, this went on.

Pounding and beating! I could hear shingles being ripped from the roof.
Metal flying! And the wind!
Always the wind!!
Then, after, about 3 hours of nonstop noise,
It fell errirly quiet!!
Oh no!
We knew what that meant!
THE EYE !! Yes, the eye of the storm was passing over.
And that is always bad news.
Because you then know, it is all about to break loose!
When the back side of the storm comes it brings
a fierce wind with it!
After I said my prayers,we went to the hall.
Where we sat for hours.
All you could do was listen!
Beating, banging, objects being slung around
and not wanting to really know what was going
on out there! Well, by 6:00am, the storm had finally moved out
of the area.

Now was the time to peek outside to see
if anything was left.
Well, if you look at the photo page, you will see some of what i saw.
And it was like that everywhere!
The streets were blocked with downed trees.
Debrie from everywhere was all over.
Yards full of shingles and building parts.
We were without power for 6 weeks.
But we did have clean water to drink, which alot of areas didn't.
We also learned how to do without and found it wasn't all
all that bad, once we got used to it.
The stores could not open because they had no power
So femma was handing out MRE's for people to eat.
Along with bottled water and ice.
Now we are 9 months post hurricane, with lots of people
still needing roofs and major indoor repairs to be done,
and the new hurricane season has
begun!
In fact, as I am writing this, there is a tropical
depression out in the gulf!
It just goes to show, doesn't matter where a person lives,
there will always be some type of weather to be dealt with!
Whether it be, tornados, landslides, snow, flooding.
Mother Nature always wins!!
