Elizabeth General Medical Center
It is said that the Newborn Nursery is haunted by a woman in white while A room in the Special Care Nursery is known for suddenly becoming cold and furniture and equipment is know to move by itself. A crying baby is sometimes heard in the third unused Nursery. A room in the postpartum ward is known for a rocking chair that rocks by itself and a toilet that flushes by itself. The hospital operator one night received a phone call from a patient's room, the voice on the other end requested that she send "help" ---the room was on the third floor which is no longer in use, it was closed down and had no telephone.

March 2004 Amanda and I made a trip to Elizabeth NJ to check out this haunted hospital. We found it right away but were told by a woman that it wasn't the Elizabeth Hospital. We were redirected to a new hospital which was not easy to find. When we got there we knew it wasn't what we were looking for but we went in anyway and mentioned something about the third floor being haunted. The ladies at the desk were very kind and told us that we were probably thinking of Elizabeth General Medical Center... uh, yeah. They wrote out directions for us which led us back to where we had started. A lovely tour of Elizabeth.... right. We went around the back of the hospital and walked right in with no difficulties. It was very odd and looked as if one day everyone had just up and left. The operating rooms looked as if they were waiting for patients and desks were still covered in records. We covered the entire first floor but were not able to get up to the third despite our many tries. We were not caught but we did hide out in a room when we heard janitors passing. Apparently a very small corner of the hospital is still in use, I believe it is a breast cancer center or something related. The abandoned rooms of Elizabeth have left an imprint on my brain. I never will and would never want to forget the erie look of the deserted halls strewn with gurneys and medical records. -Shawna M Kelly
