We've all been burned in a relationship, and we all react differently. Welcome Back is a song about the first good relationship to come after a painful break-up. I'm sure we all deal with things differently, but when I was hurt, I responded by trying to keep myself from opening up; this song is about letting your guard down and feeling good about it. The first two verses are based on the beginning of an actual relationship (sort of, long story), while from the first chorus on, this song is pure imagination and expansion.
Welcome Back and Dance share the same person for inspiration, this one being written first. If you read the description of Dance, you see what I mean by "sort of".
