Laura Sanford was born in Trenton, New Jersey. She is an only child.
When she finished high school, she wanted to avoid a dead-end job.
Laura enlisted in the Coast Guard. She wanted a disciplined
environment, but didn't want to go to war. She served in the Coast
Guard as a cook. She emerged a more disciplined person. By this stage,
Laura knew what career she wanted. She enrolled in Rider University
to get a Bachelor of Science, then became a Doctor of Veterinary
Science through Ross University in New York. She packed up after
graduation and moved to Bradford, Tennessee to be a veterinarian in a
farming community. After a while she missed the city and moved to
Pennsylvania to join a private practice. Here she met Grace Lewis when
Grace brought in the family dog several times for extended treatment.
At the time, Grace was still married. Neither of them intended to fall
in love, but the result of their affair was Grace leaving her husband
for Laura. Grace maintained custody of her son, James (Sawyer), who
came to live with them full-time. Over the years, they have had two
more children, John (born to Laura) and Charlotte (Charlie, born to
Grace). They are both the legal parents of the children due to
adoption. Laura and Grace have been together for 8 years. They are a
happy, established family and the couple consider themselves married
(Common Law) even if the law doesn't.
