Personal History: |
It
was the summer of '69 when Simon and Karen Lewis welcome their
bundle of joy into the world. Grace enjoyed a quiet childhood in
Punxsutawney, PA. Enjoying a quiet childhood, she was allowed to grow
as she needed and encouraged to learn as much as she could. From an
early age, Grace was a bright child, constantly asking questions and
eager to soak up any knowledge she could. At the tender age of 8,
while riding her bike, she neglected to look both ways before riding
across the street and subsequently was hit by a slow moving car. Her
injuries, though not serious, required medical attention. It was as
she sat in the Emergency Room of the local hospital that she
discovered her love of medicine and from that point forward she
idolized the community's doctors and was determined to become one
herself.
Strict
discipline and sheer willpower spurred her to study hard and do
what she can to work towards her goal. By the time she turned 17, she
had already applied to the Medical program at Penn state University
and by the time she graduated high school, she had been accepted.
Joining the accelerated PreMedical-Medical (P.M.M) program allowed her
to earn her degree two years earlier and allowed her to enter her
internship and residency earlier then she had expected.
It
was during her sophomore year at Penn state that she met David
Littleton and fell in love for the first time. After a long romance,
the pair married on Apr. 25, 1992. They had decided that they would
wait until Grace was done her residency before starting a family. As
luck would have it, Grace soon found herself pregnant right in the
middle of her residency. She left the hospital with a year left to go
to give birth to her son, James Littleton, but soon returned to work
to finish her residency.
In
the later months of her pregnancy, while bringing the dog in for a
routine check up, she was introduced to Laura Sanford. Hormone driven
emotions and marital problems led Grace to bond with Laura and soon
the two were good friends. By the time James had arrived, the pair
discovered that their feelings went far beyond friendship and when the
baby was a mere 8 months old, she left David to start a new life with
Laura.
They
continued their lives as a couple in Harrisburg. After two years
they decided to have a child together with the help of a family
friend. John Sanford-Lewis was born to Laura. Grace adopted him
shortly after his birth. Three years later Charlotte was born through
the same method, this time to Grace. They are a happy, established
family and the couple consider themselves married (Common Law) even if
the law doesn't.
