Metal molds maintain precise tolerances and do not distort with heat or pressure as rubber mold may. Patterns produced from a good metal mold always weigh the same and have indentical dimensions, making pricing of the finished jewelry much more accurate. Most metal molds require little or no mold release or silicone spray. Plastic cools much faster than wax, so metal molds can generally be opened immediately with no waiting.
Making a metal molds is more complicated than a rubber mold, but a metal mold lasts almost for ever, and there are many creative possibilities. For example interchangeable inserts can be fitted into the mold blanks.
