Nutrition is crucial in maintaining a healthy body
and to prevent skin breakdown when we have
limited or no mobility.

If you have skin breakdown, a decubitis ulcer or have had one in the past the following in vital in maintaining healthy skin or in wound healing.

Protein is a priority, along with complex carbs to prevent Diabetes. A good multivitamin, zinc and extra vitamin C helps keep the skin healthy.

Limit or eliminate sugars and regular carbs. Increase vegetables, meats, fish, plain fat free yogurt and fat free cottage cheese.

These are great protein boosters and the complex carbs help the protein to metabolize properly. The dairy products boost protein and calcium intake.

It is important to get calcium, Vitamin D and K when you are an adult. If you are on blood thinners check with your doctor first concerning anything with Vitamin K in it.

Good resources for Vitamin K are dark green vegetables such as collard greens and spinach, mayonaise and some oils.

Increase raw fruits and vegetables and do all in moderation. Monitor your sugar through your doctor if you are immobile and /or paralyzed.

Be on the lookout for low fat, low cholesterol, low sugar foods. Sweeten plain yogurt with a low sugar chocolate syrup, sugarless jams or allfruit jellies.
