Ur |
|
| The auroch was a wild bison that used to roam the countryside of
ancient Europe; now it is extinct. While Feoh represents the domesticated,
Venusians nature of cattle, Ur represents the wild and martial side
– the bull as opposed to the cow. In ancient Germany, an initiation
rite required that each adolescent male took part in slaying an auroch.
By the nature of initiation, this rune represents dramatic change, something
that needs to be met without flinching. It could be a positive change,
such as a new relationship or career. However, whatever it is, the change
is nonetheless one that will require the shouldering of new responsibilities. Ur implies that a challenge lies ahead – one of growing into new and larger shoes. However, if the querent approaches the situation with strength and determination – and has stamina – success is assured. He or she will need willpower to make lasting and effective changes, as they are something that the querent must bring about for themselves. This rune represents a testing time but one that can prove productive if ‘the bull is grabbed by the horns.” A reversed Ur signifies that the querent is about to go through a
major change that will not be for the better. It can also show that
an opportunity is being presented that must be grabbed if disaster is
to be avoided. The nature of the accompanying runes indicates whether
the opportunity should be seized, or on the contrary, left well alone.
Either way the portents are not good. Reversed, this symbol indicates
that the Querent does not have the drive or will to deal with the current
difficulties that he or she faces, and that the querent may be under
the influence of some outside force – perhaps an illness or even
