Mann |
|
| This rune teaches us that we are alone yet not alone. We are a separate
entity but part of the human race and the universe. From a material viewpoint,
when Mann appears in a rune cast it tends to show that the querent has
lost his or her way and needs to seek advice to bring some clarity back
into the situation. Wisdom is required. This may not have to be found
from others as it is possible that the rune is telling the querent to
stop chasing his or her tail and look at the current situation with a
cool and dispassionate eye. Since this rune means mankind in general and has associations with the planet Saturn, its appearance in a reading may point to civic and social duty. It is easy to become self-absorbed and to forget one’s wider responsibilities to family, friends and the less fortunate in society. Mann is a reminder that we do not live in a vacuum. Once again, this reflects the dispassionate nature of this rune: caring for others is achieved more easily if a certain distance is retained. On a spiritual level, Mann goes the other direction and shows us that sometimes it is necessary to put others behind us and tread a new and lonelier path if we are to progress. In reverse, Mann shows that the querent is surrounded by people who either do not necessarily have his or her best interests at heart or are simply not about to lend a helping hand or offer sound, useful advice. There is someone, or a group of people, standing in the querent’s way, and the querent will have to decide how best to tackle the problem. The accompanying runes show the way forward. A reversed Mann may also indicate that the enemy is within and perhaps that the querent should take a more positive and cooperative approach. |
