| THE CELLAR | ||||||||||
| Down in the cellar is a mystic place. In winter it's cozy warm, When up above, you can tell at a glance, We're in for a wintry storm. There's all kinds of goodies on those shelves, Almost like a store. There are peas and corn and green beans too, And jams and jellies galore. There is chow-chow, kraut, and homemade stew, Relish and pickles and beets, Blackberries and candied apples too, All kinds of wonderful treats. It tempts the nose as well as the eyes, For on the rafters overhead, Are herbs and spices that small so sweet, And onions, yellow and red. But of all the memories I hold most dear, And brings delight to my eyes, Is picking out goodies by the lantern's glow, For making hickor' nut pies. by L.E. Ashley |
