Ah!  You've come to visit The Tolkien!  Come in, come in.  Please, look around.
Of Tolkien I will say little, except that he is the author of the greatest story of the twentieth century and the father and creator of the genre of fantasy.  What began as bedtime stories is on the verge of becoming a multimillion dollar industry, but what is more incredible is the extravagent immagination that Tolkien possesed.  He told one of the most beloved and famous stories ever, created an entire world as well as several languages and a whole mythology to complete the universe he envisioned.  His novels appeal to all ages and people enjoy them as much now as when they first appeared on bookshelves.  I will link to some excellent websites that have much more on the man himself.
My favorites from Tolkien's world:
Favorite Chracter: Gandalf the Grey, wizard of the White Council, leader of the Fellowship of Nine, Enemy of Sauron.  Also called Mithrandir, Thatkun, Olorin, and Icanus.
Favorite Place: Moria or Khazad-dum in the Dwarf tongue.  One-time home to the ancient dwarves of Durin's day, this was the great network of caverns and mines beneath the Misty Mountains where the dwarves mined silver and mithril.  The Fellowship was forced to pass through on its mission.  But evil still lurks in the dark...
Favorite Quote: "You cannot pass.  I am a servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the Flame of Anor.  You cannot pass.  The dark fire will not avil you, flame of Udun.  Go back to the Shadow!  You cannot pass."
-Gandalf addressing the Balrog, on the Bridge of Khazad-dum.
