Shingo first appears in the series while discussing his teammate Takeshi's loss to Takumi; he declares that he's going to beat Takumi in a race. Later he shows up in Akina during Iketani's practice run and nudged the Silvia's bumper; Iketani lost control of his Silvia and spun. A very angry Iketani went after him, but he got away - and Iketani was surprised that when the Civic made a turn at a high speed, the brake lamps lit up. (Shingo was left-braking) Iketani
asks Takumi to drive his Silvia and show him how Takumi executes his drifting
technique in the following night. Shingo shows up again and challenges
Takumi to a 'gum tape death match' - each driver is to have his right
hand taped to the steering wheel for the duration of the race. Takumi
accepts the challange, much to Iketani's protests; Iketani realized that
with Takumi's hand taped to the steering wheel, it would impair his control
of the rear-wheel-drive AE 86 as the wheel needs to be turned more than
a front-wheel-drive car like Shingo's Civic... (Again, I am not going to spoil it for you. Read the manga or watch the anime yourself if you want to know who won.) |
