where I was born
is a flowering garden
of exquisite magic.
A sky, always clear
serves as its canopy,

to the waves at its feet.
When Columbus came
to its beaches
he exclaimed full of admiration

This is the beautiful land
I've been looking for;
it's Borinquen, the daughter
