Romanian Gypsy Music Taraf de Haidouks

For those familiar with Romanian music, Neacsu played with the late Ion Albesteanu, and he was discovered by folklorist Sperantza Radulescu

This is Nicolae Neacsu (1924 - 2000) the elder of the band. He played the violin with a bow and a loose string (you can see it hanging from the violin) that made a unique sound. He also sang and composed.
One of his compositions is a ballad about Romania's dictator Ceausescu and the the 1989 revolution. Nicolae Neacsu ('Culae') lived in the village of Clejani (30 km South of Bucharest) and was featured in the movie 'Latcho Drom'

I met Taraf de Haidouks and took these pictures right before the 'Gypsy Caravan' show in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and after the show at a 'jamming' session in Flint, MI - March 25, 1999
