THE LEGEND
There are several legends surrounding the Witch's Ball.
No matter which story you believe, the one about the "ball" itself remains the same. Legend has it if you touch the "ball" in winter it will be hot to the touch. If you touch it summer, it will be cool to the touch. And if you dare desecrate the grave you will be cursed.
Some say the woman buried here was a witch who used black magic and caused much grief until the town hunted her down. They then buried her standing up as they were afraid if she was buried the traditional way, she would resurrect herself and get revenge. They even went so far as to put a giant "ball" on top of her grave to make sure she stayed put.
Yet another story tells of an abused wife and mother who suffered greatly at the hands of her husband and son. This continued daily, until the poor woman snapped and poisoned her family.
