Episode 5: Time for Trivia

Last time on Nintendo: The Mole:

Contestants got to go on an emerald hunt on the mystical floating island. Peachs number was up as she was voted off as the Mole. Lord Crump, however, holds an emerald, so no one knows what is going to happen. Whatever it is, it is sure to be something bad. Were down to six, and the quiz is about to start.

Welcome back to Nintendo: The Mole. says IngRaider. The group is gathered in a speedboat in the middle of the Great Sea. Today, as I am sure you are aware, we will be in the Temple of Time. We are moving toward the structure as we speak. Once inside, you will race to your trivia platforms through the intricate maze of the temple. The order you reach your platforms will determine the order in which you are playing.

During the contest, you will compete to win food, small fortunes, mystery prizes, and more. The newly-determined Mole will know who he or she is when they reach the trivia platform. To foil the efforts and fun of the players who are answering questions in the game, the Mole will have the ability to foil them. The Mole will also be participating, but he or she will have the ability to cause chaos to mess around with the other players during the game. There are many buttons on the Moles platform, all of which cause something to happen, such as discard the current question, drop something on another player, or increase the physical intensity of that portion of the contest.

There will be five contests, each with a different physical and mental part, which will eliminate a player each. The winner will be immune from the vote and will receive our grand prize. We have arrived at the temple. More information will be given before we start the game. Get to your platforms in the fastest time possible. On your marks, get set, go!

Everyone races to the top of the temple interior where the quiz contest will be held.

Hmm. Do you think we should scale the temple, and then get in, or enter first and move up from there? says Zelda to Yoshi.

Uh, I dunno. Yoshi replies, as he starts running inside. Im just going inside.

Move-a out of my way-a, fools. shouts Wario, as he sprints for the door. Yoshi, however, extends his foot and trips Wario, causing him to fall to the ground. Youll-a pay for that-a. threatens Wario. Piledriver! he shouts, as he grabs Yoshi, swings him around, jumps, and sits on him. Have a rotten day!

Ouch. groans a flattened Yoshi. Everyone else begins to run past him and across the bridge that leads to the temple entrance.

Youll proceed no further, fools. says Bowser, as he burns the bridge.

Hey genius, how the heck do you suppose YOURE going to get across that gap? taunts Yoshi, as he flutters across the gap effortlessly.

Not bad. I must say Im impressed. responds Bowser. But I too have a way to travel across the gap. He whistles and the Koopa Clown Copter flies over. Bowser hops in and the copter flies him across the gap. The engine, however, dies out in mid-flight and Bowser leaps out of the machine and grabs hold onto a cliff in front of the temple. Using his claws, he begins to pull himself up and joins Yoshi on the other side.

Wario, surprisingly, successfully clears the gap with a long-jump. Tingle uses his balloon to float across. Zelda uses her Farores Wind ability to leap the gap. Ganondorf glides across successfully as well. Bowser, seeing that everyone got across, begins to flee to the temple. He quickly breaks the door and runs inside. Yoshi follows him, as does Zelda. Ganondorf throws a rope onto the temples walls an begins scaling the exterior, hoping to break into the quiz room from above. Tingle and Wario follow him.

The temple interior is swarming with bad guys such as Moblins, Bokoblins, and DarkNuts. A huge mob of Miniblins approaches Bowser. He roars and wreaks havoc upon them with a deadly flame, destroying them.

A DarkNut approaches Yoshi, who is ready to take it on. Yoshi picks up a sword from the floor and circles around the knight, waiting for it to make the first move. Sure enough, it takes a slash at him, but Yoshi ducks under the sword, rolls around under his foe, and strikes at the bottom of the knights armor, making a hole in it. The DarkNut is now vulnerable there, so Yoshi strikes him repeatedly until his armor falls off, and then brutally slaughters his foe. Piece of cake. he says, cracking his knuckles. About a hundred more enemies emerge from another room, not too happy about what Yoshi did to their friend.

Not good. panics Zelda. Run guys. she says to Yoshi and Bowser. They sprint past a few more mobs of enemies, beat up some Bokoblins, and climb the stairs to the next level. The trio spot IngRaider on a distant platform.

Hey guys. IngRaider says happily. All you have to do is reach me and you win. Good luck. Dozens of platforms are shifting, rotating, or in any other way moving around the temple. The mob of bad guys approaches Yoshi, Zelda, and Bowser.

Alright guys, we gotta jump. Yoshi says, looking back at the mob. He flutters onto a distant platform that repels him with sharp spikes. The dinosaur cries in pain and floats to another platform. Luckily for him, it is safe. Bowser and Zelda also begin to hop from one platform to another in a hurry. Bowser misses and falls into the temple abyss, but he is regenerated at the start point.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that you have three lives in which to reach me, so dont waste em, Bowser. says IngRaider. The three jump across platforms that are of various distances apart from each other and are covered with different obstacles, ranging from fire, sticky goop, spikes, and ice. Yoshi reaches IngRaiders platform first.

Congratulations Yoshi. You are first. Zelda approaches him next. Zelda, you are second. Just as Bowser approaches IngRaider, a crash is heard above and Wario, Ganondorf, and Tingle plummet to IngRaiders platform.

I knew-a this would work-a. says Wario. Youve-a gotta trust-a me more-a.

Wario, you are third, Ganondorf, you are fourth, and Tingle you are fifth. What a unique entrance. sighs IngRaider looking at the damaged roof. And Bowser, you unfortunately, are last.

No fair. he objects, referring to their style of entrance.

Now the first challenge. Its called Treadmill Trivia. You will be on a treadmill that begins at a brisk jogging speed. You must answer questions correctly to stay alive. When you answer a question incorrectly, the treadmill speeds up. Whoever falls off first loses and the next round begins. At the end, there will be only one person standing. He or she will be immune to the vote and will win a hundred dollar prize for each question answered correctly. Yoshi, being first will have his treadmill start at the slowest speed. The lower you place, the faster, so Bowsers is the fastest. Bowser also gets the first question, and Yoshi goes last. If everyone is ready, lets begin the game.

Bowser, which video game and T.V. series used the catchphrase Gotta catch em all?

Pokemon.

Correct.  Tingle, which M is a fungus used by Mario to gain power in his games?

Mushroom.

Correct. (A mushroom falls to the sky and lands in Tingles mouth.) Ganondorf, how many elements can be found in nature?

One hundred.

Wrong. The correct answer is 92.

Aw shoot. Ganondorf says, as his treadmill increases in speed.

Wario, which item in the Mario Party series allows the user to open gates?

Key.

Skeleton key. Your treadmill will increase in speed as well.

Zelda, which scientist founded the study of heredity through experiments with pea plants?

Mendel.

Correct. (Zelda is showered with peas.) Yoshi, in track, how many 400s make up a mile?

Four.

Correct. Bowser, in math, what is the square root of 144?

Hmm. Uh. Oh, eleven.

Twelve is the correct answer. Increase the speed.

The treadmill picks up at a fast pace and Bowser begins to grow tired, before falling off and hanging onto the edge of the platform.

Bowser, you must pull yourself up in five seconds or lose, calls IngRaider. The Koopa King cannot pull up his own weight, due to his incredible bulk and lack of upper body strength, so he falls off onto the platform below. Bowser, you are eliminated. Next challenge is Icy Interrogation. You will each be placed in cold water up to your necks, in your platforms.. With every incorrect answer, the temperature of the water will decrease, freezing more and more of the water. The game will continue until someone decides he or she cannot take the cold, or is entirely engulfed in ice. Lets continue.

Tingle, in drama, who wrote the play A Midsummer Nights Dream?

William Shakespeare.

Correct. Ganondorf, in music, what note has more value, a quarter note, or an eighth note?

Quarter note.

Correct. Wario, which vessels transport blood away form the heart?

Veins.

No, arteries. Lets make your water a bit colder.

No problem for-a me. My fat will-a insulate the cold-a. says Wario confidently.

Well see about that. Zelda, which element has the symbol S?

Sodium.

No, the correct answer is Sulfur. Here comes the cold.

Zelda begins to shiver, but Wario is unfazed by the ice surrounding him.

Yoshi, what did Albert Einstein define as the fourth dimension?

Time.

Correct. Tingle, what is the name given to the business practice of investing money into a business to make a profit?

Investicism?

No, capitalism. You too, will freeze.

The cold is more than the tiny elf can bear, and he immediately pleads to be released from the cold, ending the round.

Four are left, and the next game is Pain Puzzler. You will each be connected to a machine that induces pain. The more questions you answer incorrectly, the more the pain you feel will increase. When someone cannot take the pain and cries out in agony, that person loses and will not move on to the next round. Lets begin.

Ganondorf, in math, what is 17 times 4?

Sixty-eight.

Correct. Wario, in what year did the Great Depression begin?

1776?

No, 1929. Here comes the pain.

Bring it! says Wario. Im all about-a pain!

You asked for it. responds IngRaider. A wire begins to pump a chemical that affects the nerves and causes pain through Warios body.

Intense-a. But I-a can take it-a.

Very well. Zelda, in food preparation, what term is given to meat that is cooked to the fullest extent?

Well-done.

Correct. Yoshi, what name is given to the little green dinosaur..

A buzzer is heard. Sounds like the Mole didnt like that question. replies IngRaider. I can see why. It might be a bit too easy for you. Heres a new one:

Yoshi, in what war did the Tudor family seize power in England?

War of the Roses.

Very good. Ganondorf, what is the capital of Thailand?

Bangkok.

Youd know-a a lot about-a that! jokes Wario.

IngRaider clears his throat loudly. Correct. Great joke, but lets get back to the game. Wario, which is larger, a quart or a bushel?

A quart.

Wrong again, Wario. Here comes some more pain.

Wah. he shouts.

You let out a cry of pain. Therefore, you lose. The next game is Burning Brainteaser. You will answer questions to avoid the heat. Each wrong answer earns an increase in heat in your platform. The temperature begins at 100 degrees Fahrenheit and increases by fifty degrees for each incorrect answer. You can give up at any time. Lets play.

Ganondorf

A buzzer sounds yet again.

What?! I didnt even ask the question. Very well, lets change it. Ganon..(another buzzer sounds.) What the heck is going on here? Why (buzz) are you (buzz) playing with the (buzz) buzzer? Ganondorf, who was the first player voted out as the Mole in this season?

Donkey Kong.

Correct. Zelda, how many questions have been asked so far?

Twenty?

No. The answer is. I really dont know. Raise the heat anyway.

Thats not fair! protests Zelda.

All is fair in love and war. And this game qualifies as war. replies IngRaider, grinning.

The temperature on Zeldas platform rises to 150 degrees. She begins to resist it and then gets to a point where she cannot and yelps in pain.

Zelda, you are out of this round. Yoshi and Ganondorf, you guys are left. Your final challenge will be Sudden Death. I will ask alternating questions. Yoshi will go first. If he gets his question right, Ganondorf, you must get your question right to get in the game. If Yoshi answers incorrectly, and you get it right, you win Ganondorf. Does that make sense? Ready, set, go!

Yoshi, in which state is Mt. Rushmore located?

A bell rings loudly, and a pile of garbage falls on Yoshi.

Ok, that was random. says IngRaider. Youre not gonna take that, Yoshi, are you?

South Dakota.

Someone dumps garbage on you, and all you say is SOUTH DAKOTA. South Dakota IS the correct answer by the way.

Ganondorf, how many Pokemon are there in the original 3 games?

151.

151 is correct. Yoshi, how many sides does a dodecagon have?

Twelve.

Twelve is correct. Ganondorf, (A pile of poop falls on his head and everyone laughs.) what game is about an intergalactic bounty hunter who seeks to rid the universe of pirates?

Metroid.

That is the correct answer. Yoshi, how many contestants are there in Nintendo Survivor?

16.

Correct. This isn't getting us anywhere, so lets play a different game. You will each name a Yoshi Stadium staffer besides myself. Whoever cannot name a staffer on their turn loses. Lets start.

Ganondorf?

Pirate Yoshi.

Went for the obvious one, huh? Yoshi?

Fierce Deity.

Another easy one. Ganondorf?

Tanooki Koopa.

Good. Yoshi?

Rainbow Cat.

Ganondorf?

PrOXy.

Right. Yoshi?

Bomber Link.

Correct. Ganondorf?

Cardcaptor Yoshi. Yoshi?

Hey, no fair.

Whats wrong? asks IngRaider.

Theres no one else left.

Tough break Yoshi. You are right, and you know what that means-- you lose. Ganondorf, you are immune from the vote and you win a total of $1000 from the game. Everyone else is fair game to be voted off. Well meet outside the temple in my ship for voting in about ten minutes.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome to the voting ceremony. Once again, lets discuss among the group who the Mole is. Ganondorf, what do you think?

Hmm. I think that Tingle is the Mole. Hes an over-excited bucket of beans and I think he was the one pressing all those buttons. Tingle is very compulsive and has urges to do things like that, so I bet he just dumped stuff on us for fun and he is the Mole.

Tingle, what do you say to that?

Well, IngRaider, I think Ganondorf is the Mole. I think he cheated throughout the entire game and thats how he was immune two times in a row. In fact, if he wasnt immune to the vote, Id vote him off right now.

And for one final opinion, Zelda, what do you think?

I think Yoshi is the Mole. Thats why he cancelled the question about Yoshito make us THINK that someone else pressed it because they knew he knew it, but in reality, I feel HE himself is the Mole, and changed the question.

Very well, youve heard their arguments. Lets vote. (The contestants vote.) Voting over, when I call your name, reveal your choice to the group:

Yoshi.

Tingle.

Zelda.

Yoshi.

Bowser.

Tingle.

Ganondorf.

Tingle.

Hmm, interesting. Wario.

Yoshi.

Tingle.

Yoshi.

We have a tie, guys. And when there is a tie, the Mole takes his or her victim. Mole, press the Z button on your controller and select the person who you want to eliminate on your screen.

The screen in the middle of the room displays the word Tingle in bright red letters.

Tingle, weve enjoyed having you, but this is goodbye.

The elf begins to weep quietly and vanishes through the floor beneath him where other losing players go.

On the next Nintendo: The Mole:

Players will visit Kanto in the midst of the Pokemon world. There they will have to earn as many badges and catch as many Pokemon collectively as possible. But as always, there will be someone working against them, undoing all their hard work. That player is the Mole. The question is, however, will that player continue to pick off players and deal in darkness, or will he or she be revealed. Find out on the next Nintendo: The Mole.
