"THE CULMINATION OF AN ILL-OGY"

...by David M. Barone

DJ J-Nyce, from the underground upstate New York scene, is putting the final touches on his third mix album. This album has been rumored to be the conclusion of a trilogy which included: Walking Through Loud Castles(2001, CD 1) In Search of T.C. Furrow and other Suburban Delinquents (a.k.a. the Reinforcements, 2003, CD 2.)

Ingest This! got an exclusive interview with J-Nyce to settle this & other rumors once and for all.

IT: Is it true that the new CD is going to be the third and final installment in the trilogy.

JN: 3rd, but perhaps not final. I wanted 4 of them, and I hope to expand the third long enough to make four. I like symmetry.

IT: Me too. On the third album, will J-Nyce find the Reinforcements, or has he already?

JN: They have been found, and are now on their way to discovering grimier and darker things. See, the basic formula is: the first album is innocence and discovery, the second is the characters [songs] finding the Reinforcements, the third album is going to be the ultimate conflict, and the fourth will be the resolution, the end.

IT: I like that. Whats the vibe of the new album?

JN: Basically, this is what its all led up to. Itll be more intense, a battle of light and dark, and some parts will be physically unpleasant to listen to. On this album the shit hits the fan. It picks up where In Search of left off, on the drum and bass side. The overall vibe is dark though, and thats all Im saying about that.

IT: Do you have a title yet, & can we print it?

JN: The title is not certain yet. I wait until its done, listen to the whole thing, from a detached perspective, and then name it. Things happening in my life at the time help me title it too.

IT: There has been talk of a versus or collaboration album in the mix, tell me about that?

JN: Me and the one and only DJ Dave Yaeger have been working on this idea for years. Weve actually just taken about a month, in a couple of sittings, and put a good set together. Now, its all about finding the time to put it down. It shouldnt be long now though, weve wanted this to happen for a long time.

IT: That all sounds great. Thanks for the chat. Ive gotta run to work now.

JN: Anytime man.
