| In 1897, a French photojournalist named Francis Lumie treked to the top of the Alps in search of a photo of the rumored "last remaining Askiki", and he returned with this beautiful image of a Mallamous Askiki in full attire. The sole surviving member of the tribe gratefully accepted the portrait invitation, and also shared some interesting facts about the tribe's history. Though his French was crude, and his mannerisms were, well, unique, he will always be remembered as a heartwarming window to a different era. |
