From 1996-1998,
David was a partner
in BDI Research Group, a health and social research consulting firm.
David was the Senior Research Associate for the Social Planning and
Research Council (SPARC) of BC in Vancouver from 1991-1996. David
has years of experience researching and writing on population
health, well-being, and social development. He specializes in community
well being measurement, evaluation, and social indicators, child and
youth well-being, child and family poverty and inequality, and social
policy. David's latest publication is School-based Feeding Programs:
A good choice for children?
David's major
activity at SPARC was as co-principal investigator in a four-year
program of research into community well-being and social development
(1991-1995, funded by Health and Welfare Canada). David co-edited
the report, Well-Being: A conceptual framework and three literature
reviews (1993), the product of a ground-breaking research project
funded by the Premier's Council on Health, Well-Being and Social Justice
of Ontario. His undergraduate (BA) and graduate education (MSc, PhD)
is in psychology, sociology, philosophy, and community health.
David is affiliated with a number of social policy organizations and
projects in a voluntary capacity: First Vice-President and Vice-President
(BC/Yukon) for the Canadian Council on Social Development; Member
of the national expert panel for The Progress of Canada's Children
reports; Founding member of Campaign 2000 to End Child Poverty in
Canada; President of the Greater Victoria Child and Youth Advocacy
Society; and, Partner in the Capital Urban Poverty Project in the
Capital Regional District.
