Artist Statement

My artistic process is a really a non process. An idea comes to me and I make it. I have no specific subject matter or goal that I base my work on, but my work seems to fall into various groups of ideas. Those ideas being political, commentary on society, self portraits, various one time hit subject matter, and most recently the commentary on maleness and the male experience.  I create art for the sol purpose of creating art and because I want to. I do not look at other artists work because it causes me to steal their ideas and concepts and incorporate them into my own work. One of my drawings feature nude and clothed people in a shopping mall. I was trying to convey the concept of nudity is not bad and to also touch on the idea of everyday nudity. Another work I have done is a pictures of my mine through the use of lines piled upon one anther in such a way to show how complex and muddled things are in my own mine. The people who inspire me are Carlos Mencea, Keith Olbermann, and Jay Leno. Carlos Mencea inspires my questioning of the inequalities I see in society. Keith Olbermann keeps me grounded in not favoring one political ideas, Jay Leno for coming up with new ways of expressing the same idea.  I use pencil, ballpoint pen, conte crayon, charcoal, pastels, acrylic paint, brush and ink, Photoshop and illustrator in my art. I do work on both paper and canvas. I want the viewer to find their own meaning in my work so that the work can become more personal to the viewer but sometimes I like just as much to hammer in my own point of view because it is the only way people will listen to what I have to say.
