This
year marks the 40th Anniversary of the founding of Friendship
House Association of American Indians. Friendship House was
established in 1963 by the Christian Reform Church to provide
a gathering place and multi-purpose drop-in center for the new
urban American Indian community in San Francisco. Today, Friendship
House is a premiere, multi-million dollar program providing
a full range of substance abuse prevention, treatment and aftercare
services for native people in four facilities throughout the
San Francisco Bay Area.
The Board of Directors of Friendship House are proud of our
generation of service to our community and the good things
we have achieved together. We have a strong program staffed
by good and capable people. We have earned numerous awards
from federal and state regulatory agencies for our high quality
of service and fiscal management. Most of all, we are proud
of the thousands of Friendship House graduates who are now
leading clean, sober, and productive lives.
This year we began construction of the Friendship
House American Indian Healing Center- our new 80 bed,
state-of-the-art residential substance abuse treatment facility.
When the Healing Center is completed in 2004, it will be the
third largest residential treatment program in San Francisco
and one of the largest centers in the country serving homeless
and addicted American Indian people. We are greatful for the
generous support, prayers, and assistance of everyone who
has worked so hard to make this dream come true for our community.
We thank you for joining with us as we
celebrate 40 years of service, healing, and friendship in
our American Indian community!
