| I am a 36 year old wife and mother. Our family consists of 4 children: 2 with ADHD, 1 teenage boy with ADD and 1 ADD daughter with a side of Dyslexia. Both my husband and myself are ADD and ADHD (my husband being ADHD)! | |||
| I have become a parent representative within the school, because I got tired of fighting and wanted to learn the system from the inside! I have such a struggle. I could never figure out while I was in school, just what was wrong with me, or why I was so different from the other kids. I was in the 7th grade before I even learned to read, although I had a fantastic memory; when I joined the world of literacy, my eyes began to open for the first time. Still it wasn't till I had kids of my own that I realized that there was a medical term for what I thought was pure craziness. | |||
| I have since learned a great deal on the subject of ADD-ADHD and Dyslexia. But if you were to step in my door, you'd never know it. Life in my house is utter chaos, and thats okay because we're still learning. I'll never forget the time my second son came home from kindergarten and asked me "Mommy, why doesn't anybody want to play with me?" It just about broke my heart, but I told him that the other kids just don't know how special he is. It put a smile on his face and all was fine for awhile. Till he came home saying that the teacher said he was in a world of his own, to which I replied, "Honey, remember to file your thoughts, before you enter the class, then after class maybe you can teach the teacher too. But honey, you may have to slow down when you do, because unlike you, the teacher can't learn hundreds of things at once, so slow it to maybe two." To this he replied, "Boy, mommy, teachers sure can be dummies huh?" This boy is now a well adjusted 5th grader with more energy than a high speed engine, and loved all the more. | |||
