With a combination of mystery, fantasy, forbidden romance, and Gothic-like horror, all rolled up into one, I find it very difficult to put a label on the book (and so did the publisher's, so they just labeled it "Fiction"), but the story is basically about a young heiress, Faith, who comes into contact with two warring angels whom were left over from the flood of Noah's day until modern times, in Spain's remote, scantly populated, Catalonian Pyrenees Mountains.

She is broken-hearted over her mother's recent death, so she goes to Spain to assess her inheritance and finally get a chance to re-acquaint herself with her longtime dead father's relatives; only when she gets there, she discovers through relentless prying that there is far more to that side of the family than anyone is aware of.

Her great, great great-grandmother is even far older than she ever could have dreamed. The old woman's mysterious past is linked to angels who still quarrel, while one (of the angels) continues to hold the other prisoner for a sin that was committed nearly four hundred years ago. Faith is just the one brave enough and foolish enough to probe into their darkest secrets, almost regardless of the danger which might be involved because she grows so fond of both of them that she doesn't know on which side she should place her loyalties.

The angel, Ramon, is rather mysterious natured and remorseful, and the angel, Za'aphiel, appears rather soft in spirit but remains painfully un-accepting of his fate. Both have stories too sad to be told yet have desires in opposition to one another. Za'aphiel's release lies in Faith's hands, and the outcome of her decision could be
devastating.

Should she listen to the advice of her evil uncle, his cowardly stepson, her dear great grandmother, or Ramon's faithful manservant, Leon, and just run as far and as fast as she can away from everyone and never look back, just as her poor deceased mother had?
