Barns
Windblown Inc. is located on 500 acres of land in the little island off the coast of North Carolina called Ocracoke with water sources, such as canals, all throughout it. Here at Windblown Inc. we try to keep it as simple as possible. Our horses are also our children. We own only 2 Barns to ensure the safety of all horses Owned by Windblown Inc. We have an automatic water system with air conditioning and heating built into each stall. All stalls are filled with cedar shavings. The following Items can be found in each stall; a water "bowl", a hay net, a feed bin, and a treat box. Each Stable includes 32 stalls. 6 stalls are for mares in foal. They are 17' by 17'. They lead out to their own seperate pastures. 9 stalls are for stallions, or I guess you could say "studs". They are 17' by 17' as well. The also lead out to their own seperate pastures. The other 16 stalls are for my other horses that I am showing. The stalls are 15' by 15'. For every 4 horses there is a pasture. Our Stable includes a feed room, a bathroom, a lounge room, a small kitchen, and a tack room. The hallways are 16 feet wide to allow easy Movements throughout the building. There is no need to worry about brushes and tack being in the halls, because each horse has a tack box near their stalls. Each horses supplies will be put into the boxes, including; brushes, shampoo, show accesories (ie hoof glitter, rubber bands, ect..), and other things that follow along those lines. The heavier things, such as saddles, are kept in the tack room. We also have 4 outdoor arena used for all purposes, 3 roundpens, and 2 hotwalkers. All horses are watched over 24 hours a day. Pastures
Our pastures are very safe and kid friendly. We use 4 plank wooden fences. They are very safe with no protruding nails. Corners in fencing is rounded to reduce risk of injury. The pastures are fertilized twice a year. They are drug three times a year also to encourage grass growth. For every acre of pasture land, there is a run-in that can stable up to 4 horses. All run-ins are 60x60. They include same accessories as a stall would. Which to refresh your memory is a fed/hay bin, treat box, water container, and I also added fans in the run-ins because I could not put heating & air conditioning in them. Horses are brought back in daily so don't worry about horses being left outside in reach of wild animals. Also dogwood stables has a wonderful canal/lake that goes furthur than the eye can see. The pasture is on both sides of the canal. There is a connecting bridge in different places of the canal. The bridge is made of cement rather than wood, that way I can drive my vehicles over it to get the horses in the afternoon. The banks are horse friendly, meaning that the horses may swim in the water and get out easily. No boats can pass through the canal because we have blocked it off. There is a fence with medium voltage electric fence going around the whole land so you do not need to worry about the horses escaping.
Run-Ins As mentioned above, all run-ins are 60x60 and can house 4 horses. They are high quality, just like a stall. They are bedded with cedar shavings and different types of grain with a water bowl. There are no stall connectors, because I feel this causes danger to horses. I fear that the horses may mess with the dividers or may run to fast and cut themselves. There is 1 run-in per pasture, unless the particular pasture is over 1 acre, in which case there is a run in for each acre. Some may ask why so many, well I feel that the horse may not be able to get to the run-ins area before the harsh weather comes in. Stable by the Sea As you may have read on the main page, we are located near a beach. Seeing how we own 500 acres of land, the beach was included. We managed to build a 4 horse stable with a pasture and all near it so we could take the horses to the beach. Also we get to enjoy beach time as well. The horses pasture goes into the water as well. It is only at the shore and knee deep for humans. We thought th ehorses may want to enjoy the water. Don't worry, no electric fences were used. The fences were made with iron, to keep it as safe as possible. The iron does not rust.
