One "True" Friend

by Morgan Kelly

Hiding behind an artificial wall of trust,
You pretended to be my friend.
Letting me believe you really gave a damn,
You made me think you wanted to protect me.

How does it feel to hurt me?
I always wondered what it must be like.
Does it make you feel better about your life?
Do you forget your misery by ruining mine?

First you say that you want me to be happy,
Then brick by brick by brick,
You tear down the foundation I tried to build,
So I am left in knee deep in rubble again.

I dont know what you want from me,
I already handed you my soul.
Do you want my one last shred of dignity?
And would you like it giftwrapped?

As if rising in the morning wasn't painful enough,
You made a living hell a little hotter.
What will you say when you can't hurt me anymore?
"Oh well, there was nothing more to take anyway."

In a world where everyone leaves,
I wish you'd be the next.
And leave the ones who really care about me,
To love me the way you only claim to.
