These poems are by my friend Danielle, aka Doay.  The first one she dedicates to herself and the second to her uncle.
Street Story
Have you been the places I've been?
Have you seen the things I seen?
Have you lived a day in my shoes?
Then don't knock the way that I chose
Did you ever live on the streets of a ghetto?
Did you ever live on the floor of a grassy meadow?
Did you ever live in a house you couldn't afford?
Then don't knock me for how I get my room and board
Would you ever think that I was abused?
Would you ever believe that I had used?
Would you ever believe a person who told you you weren't going to make it?
Then don't knock me for trying to live my life and not fake it.
I'll rob, cheat, and steal just so I can get another meal
Have you ever been paralyzed by fear?
Have you ever let an enemy see you tear?
Would you ever let yourself lay down and die?
Then don't knock me when I have to lie.
Have you ever let your heart feel true love?
Did you ever see your angel who was sent down from above?
Would you ever not listen to the voice from your soul?
Then don't knock me for trying to reach my goal.

I Wish
I wish you were here, here right now to share these thoughts with me somehow
I wish I could see the look on your face
I wish you could be with me right now here in this place
I wish I could hear the comment you'd make, or even for a moment see the breathe you would take.
I wish I could hear your laugh full of cheer
I wish for a second to see your frightened eyes full of fear
I wish everyday to see your trials and your gladness
Or when someone hurts you
For you to express to me your sadness
Of all the places I wish you could be in this lonely moment
I need you right here with me
