Chapter 3: The Struggle Begins

Kini-Ahai glows with a brilliant light as she focuses her narrowing gaze on the creatures before her. She prepares her attack but stops short when from the front of the jet comes a horrible scream.

“BLOODY SHIT!” First class Commander Barry Strat was going through another routine flight. Ever since what he would have called “World War III” back in his Air Force days all he had been able to get was this pilot job of escorting members of the British government’s RS division around. He didn’t hate the job it certainly had its perks but he longed for his old dog-fighting days. His personal assignment had become pilot for Class Alpha Agent Analisa. A nice enough woman he had to say he knew of worse people he could have been stuck with. That girl of hers was pretty nice too. Unlike most of the pilots for RS, Barry wasn’t completely in the dark. He was trusted with a few secrets by some of his friends in the RS. The most surprising was when he first saw Analisa use her powers in a tape showed to him. It was as if she became a completely new person.

However as interesting as his assignment is, Barry would rather being flying any other person on the planet at this moment. Barry had been the first to see the Creature clamp onto the plane. This was the cause of the profane outburst we just heard. The curses escalate as the hull breach sensors begin to buzz in his ears as if he were a blind man and could not tell by the flashing lights all over the control console. As deadly as this situation could be Barry is instantly at the height of his skills. The danger brings him back to the good old days when it was kill or be killed and that’s just the way he likes it. His pilot’s mind as sharp as ever Barry shuts down the pregenerated course autopilot and goes into manual steering mode. Reaching over he flicks a switch marked ‘Verbal Computer to Pilot Communicator’

“Computer, access code: 059 beta-zion. Authorization name: Barry Strat.” The computer complies in a mechanical voice that Barry for the most part ignores, “Hull breach in passenger compartment. Close the bloody thing!” The emergency panels used for sealing such holes up immediately begin to slide over the breached section of the ship’s exterior.

“Right, now computer, inputting new destination. Destination is now RS base Thet-” Barry notices far too late that the cabin breach alarm has joined the hull breach alarm in the not so melodious chorus. A large club connects with the side of his face sending him to the floor with black spots dancing before his vision. As his vision slightly begins to clear he can make out that his attacker is the creature that he saw on the view screen earlier. Getting to his feet a half smile crosses Barry’s bloodied face and he spits a small amount of blood onto the cabin floor.

“Ok, you buggering little bastard. If it’s a fight you want, then far be it from me not to oblige.” Barry leaps forward and crashes into the creature’s chest. The duo tumble over on the floor until Barry is knocked backward by a vicious headbutt from his ghastly opponent. Falling back against the far wall of the plane Barry wipes a bit of blood from his forehead where it has been newly busted open.

“Why, you little shit....” Barry quickly rotates into a full round kick aimed at the creature’s hand. The impact manages to knock the club out of the abominated monster’s grip and Barry catches it in mid flight. Holding the club in a baseball bat style Barry grins again.

“Ever tell ya I was the captain of the cricket team back in school?” Barry swings the club with the force of every heavy hitter the world has ever seen. The club connects easily enough with the creature’s head and breaks jaggedly in two. The creature stumbles backwards several steps then land sitting against the opposite wall. Barry laughs as he walks over to the prone form before him and tosses his broken weapon into its lap.

“How’s that for a mighty six you little bugger?” While Barry laughs over his opponent’s defeat he fails to notice the creature’s hand moving. Before he can say any more Barry finds himself hoisted by his neck up into the air where his head bangs painfully against the ceiling. Without any air entering his lungs Barry can feel his strength waning and grasps feebly at the creature’s scaled hand in a vain attempt to escape it’s grasp. The creature sneers in what is the closest thing its grotesque face can come to a smile. The rune amulet around its neck begins to glow with a red light.

“Oh fu-” Before he can finish his statement Barry is blasted by a burst of flame that burns much of the skin off his chest on contact and sends him flying straight throw the reinforced glass of the cockpit. His screams echo through the air as he tumbles form sight. Still grin/snarling the creature exits the cockpit and returns to the passenger section as the plane begins to curve down toward the ground below.

Kini-Ahai begins to worry about Barry. She knows that as skilled as the English pilot is, he is no match for a Warg. She doesn’t have time to dwell on it. The task at hand is more important. Kini-Ahai rushes the nearest of the creatures.

“Stay here Rosa, don’t move a muscle. Wait for us, okay?” Tryangle had teleported to a small clearing near the edge of the forest where he sat Rosa down. The frightened child looks up into his eyes and nods.

“O...kay...” Tryangle ruffles the girl’s hair causing her to giggle slightly, then looks upwards. He can see the jet ahead of him, plummeting rapidly. He points in its direction, closes his eyes and teleports.

Four on one, in tight quarters, and a rapidly falling jet. To say Kini-Ahai wasn't too comfortable with the situation would be the understatement of the century. Her hands shoot out in front her and red and gold energy begins to pulse within them. Her eyes flare a brilliant gold and her hair rises in the air in a halo around her head.

“ Jaguar Fire!” The red-gold blast connects with two of the Wargs sending them crashing into the wall of the jet. She turns only to catch a crossing punch from one of the remaining two. The blow was backed by the powerful energy generated by the beast’s rune charm. Kini-Ahai crashes into the floor from the devastating blow and is slow to rise trying to shake the spots in her vision. To make matters worse the fifth Warg is now returning from the cockpit of the plane. The leader steps forward laughing in its croaking voice.

“You, coming with us woman. We make...special delivery, yes?” The other beasts join in with their leader’s laughter at the woman’s plight. Kini-Ahai backs against the wall. As the fouled creature reaches forward to grab her its head promptly explodes in a shower of black ooze that could only be what passes for these creatures’ blood. In the space where a hideous visage was but a split second earlier there now rests a large black fist in its place. Tryangle's appearance on the scene had left the others stunned and he takes the opportunity to help Kini-Ahai escape by teleporting her away to the ground below, leaving the Wargs alone.

“Damn fool! Come, we avenge leader,” one Warg shouts breaking the other three out of their trance. The beasts quickly blast their way out of the jet just before it crash-lands into the jungle. They spot Tryangle and Kini-Ahai a few yards away and immediately head towards them, their eyes and runes glowing with mad fury. However one of them is grabbed from behind and yanked back.

“I don't think so...”

Author’s Note: Well since there wasn’t a break in the action this chapter there were no “Observer” sections, but I can guarantee there’ll be plenty more of them in the future.

Next time we introduce a new character and, believe it or not, I don’t have a name for him yet so suggestions are welcome. As always please read and review. Criticism is welcome. Until next time, Momentai.
