Maybe they're just really early? Well you'd better go out there anyway.
"Club Foot" by Kasabian hits on the speakers and the people that ARE in the crowd give applause that could only be described as out of pity. A man in a paper white suit comes out with lots of chains around his neck. The camera doesn't reveal who it is, although we can assume it's The Icon. He steps up to the podium.
I'll take questions regarding my Canadian title loss to Joe Cool now, oh but first, how gay do I look right now? A white suit? Come on!
The camera zooms up to see that it's really Joe Cool! His hair is slicked back and he's dressed exactly like The Icon, mocking him. A man in the fifth row raises his hand.
This is a pretty elaborate joke, Mr. Cool. But what's the point if no one is going to see? We all assumed it was an Icon "press conference" so they only sent the guys in the press who get the crap stories. I could be covering a skiing raccoon right now.
This is being videotaped so everyone will see how it happens. But, I'm sure once word gets out...
A voice from outside is heard shouting "This isn't the Icon, it's Joe Cool!!!" and we see people start pouring into the room.
My point exactly. I never did get why The Icon calls himself that, or feels he is important enough to warrant his very own press conferences. He's the Canadian champion? Big deal. The only reason he matters to me at this point is because he's costed me two matches and he seems to think I'm not much of a threat. He seems to think a lot of people aren't much of a threat.
So how do you think you're going to beat him when you haven't won in a month?
Easily, that's how. Because this time no one's running in to hit me with a chair. I took a brief hiatus, came back and in my two matches to guys I had on the ropes, Icon blasted me with steel and I lost. No big deal. I'd tell Icon he could even have chairs be legal in this match and it won't matter. I'll see him coming this time.
Another man raises his hand, this time in the back, having just made it inside.
What about his accusations that he's beaten you twice?
Well that's just silly isn't it. He has yet to pin me. If Icon + Joe Cool = defeat for me, you forget to add the variable of Icon + someone else + steel chair = defeat for me. This time it's just me and him. And let's face it. Icon's just not that good. I'm on a mission to prove myself to a new audience that I am indeed not a washed-up has been. Because you know I thought I was for a while there. But when there's still talentless losers like Icon running around, my work is never truely finished. Someone has to put these idiots in their place, might as well be me.
And his claims that you can't win anything?
Well I could make an excuse for each of them. Last two weeks he hit me with a chair from behind. But I'm not going to. Because the streak ends at Solitaire. My finisher name is part of the PPV name, that's funny. I drop him with the Solitaire Unraveling, and his title reign does just that. It will unravel before his very eyes, and we'll see a new Canadian champion. So what if I've lost. Everyone has losing streaks every now and then. Fact of the matter is, it's over. I'm not losing anymore and it starts with The Icon.
Joe rolls his eyes.
The Icon. Just hearing him call himself that makes me sick. He's not an icon. Not even close. I've beaten more icons in my first year than he's probably even fought against, myself excluded. I've beaten guys that would absolutely decimate him in less than a minute. How can he accurately call himself an Icon when he has absolutely no talent?
Is this just a filler match before Icon vs Gary Reece happens?
This is the downward spiral for Icon as he will lose to me, then lose to Gary Reece. You see Icon, this isn't filler. Sure it's a waste of time for me, because I should be in that unification chamber, but you see, I did lose. I own up to that. I got this title shot and I'm going to make the most of it at your expense. You see Icon, you're what we in the business like to call a Jobber to the Stars. It's an insider term. Sure you'll get some wins, you might even win a secondary title, but when you're matched against true talent, you lose. Plain and simple. You may get your TJO in...that's token jobber offense..but when it comes down to it there are two things that are going to happen. Either I'm going to drop you with the SU, or I'll make you tap out. And wouldn't the second option just be sweet? Knowing that not only did I take your precious belt away from you, but you basically gave it to me. Which with my submission finisher, you'll have to, or I'll snap your knee. I've done it before.
You'd be willing to jeopardize a man's career to win a belt?
Icon doesn't have much of a 'career' to begin with. If he doesn't tap...well let's just say if he has any bit of intellegence he will tap. You Icon, are a flash in the pan. I've seen guys like you come, and I've seen you go. Guess who made them go? That's right. Me. At Solitaire, you're going to find out exactly why you made a mistake of interfering with my business. Best of all, I'm getting a shiny new belt! But hey, I'm not telling you anything, that you don't already know.
Joe leaves the podium and starts signing autographs as the scene fades out...
