Funny, I think, cartoons that are not quite right.
My Mom objects
to these so they must be at least a little good. Best if viewed full size (click

This show concerns four kids and a squirrel that are Russian dolls, the kind where you open one and another is inside it. This is the first disturbing thing about the show and not the last. Apparently, these kids all freak in every show about some simple task. The Big white boy is always stupid and scared. The next one out is the nerdy black kid with glasses. He is always whimpering about something. Then the girl with stupid ideas. Every episode she has some very stupid idea that the squirrel has to shoot down. The last kid is a short hispanic that is pretty reasonable. Last is the squrriel that lives at the core. This is the smartest character in the show. It is multi-lingual and has basic understanding of science (it talks too). The kids are almost always in the same cloths, they jump inside each other when spooked, and the pizza delivery guy (obviously the town dope dealer) has a couple of cars, a helicopter, and is always giving away pizzas. They call everything Higgly something, Higgly car, Higgly bike...and God help us all - they sing all the time. The adults are generally morons, excepet whomever the hero of the day is: taxi driver, tailor, etc...
The show is not bad, but I have watched it so many times I know all the episodes and hate it now. I would rather listen to my child cry than watch it. I am waiting for the Comedy Central version "Higgly Town Losers - today the kids need someone whacked and meet the Higgly Town Hit man!"
For anyone living under a rock, like Patrick, this show is about a Sea Sponge (looks like a sink sponge which is what my Grandmother thought he was and so thought the show was disgusting). Sponge Bob works as a fry cook. Yes it is a cartoon, and there are many examples of nonsense like fir under water, fish that drown, and all the species speak english. It is a good show and usually has message, but sometimes it is hard to find or believe that is the message they really intended. First you must understand that Squidward, S - Bob's surly neighbor is the only one with only minor mental problems. Squidward is a squid(duh) that works the cash register at the Crusty Crab with S-Bob. He plays clarinet, poorly, does dance and art, poorly, and wants a better life - it is hard being smart enogh to realize that things suck. S-Bob being next door, and Patrick on the other side, brings Squidward down, "Oh why must every eleven minutes of my life be filled with pain?" Patrick Star, the starfish, obvioulsy had head trama as a child. He is stupid, but funny. S-bob is twitchy, workaholic, with paranoid and obvious obsesive-compulsive behaviors and must be bipolar (at least). He has an evil money grubing boss named Mr. Crabs. He is bad news: swindles S-Bob, cheats his workers, steals a pearl (which turns out to be an egg), puts children in danger, and needs metal treatment when he loses money. S-Bob's girlfriend?? is a squirel named Sandy Cheeks and is from Texas (this explains why she chooses to live underwater instead of on land with the people of Texas). She is unatainable for S-Bob (she lives in a NASA suit). She regularly kicks somethings butt and is fiesty with a capital F.
There are other characters in S-Bob and they are funny - excpet for Patchy. They must be saving money and have a real actor do intros and stuff, lame! My only real complaint about S-Bob is that the DVDs have overlapping titles - the same story shows up on three different DVDs!
The kids are ok with the show, not great but they like the singing. The idea is five teenagers sign and do skits with signing for the kids. The reality is that the Dads get to watch three young ladies (variety pack) and the Moms get a tall blonde and a shorter dark haired lad. All prace about in semi-tight pants outfits. I do hate Jub-jub and think he should be squashed...
