Inkubus Sukkubus
21st February 2003
Fibbers of York, UK
The monthly Strange Angel gig/club night finally found its niche with its fifth
event featuring the neo-folk band
Inkubus Sukkubus and two local DJs.
Having been heavily promoted all around Northern England, rumours soon got around that tickets were 'on the verge of selling out' and by the night itself
there were only seven tickets left on the door.
Despite the very small capacity of
Fibbers a mere 200 people, the crowds felt much larger than usual.

As Inkubus Sukkubus was the only band playing
that night the evening began with sets by local DJs
Glenn Psychosis and DJ Simon both of whom played relatively wide ranging and well received sets of popular goth songs.

Inkubus Sukkubus eventually took to the fibbers
stage at 9pm and began what proved to be an excellent set that included some of their most famous songs and audience requests. Known for their bouncy tunes and frequent, extravagant guitar solos, the band got the crowd dancing from the very start and maintained that energy for most of the set. Beginning with the mesmerizing chant of Wytches the set included such songs as Belladonna and Aconite, Ballad of Maude Bowen, Heart of Lilith, Lucifer Rising, Away with the Fairies and Vampire Erotica. Despite the pagan themes of the songs, the set was enjoyed by all, even if some people didn't return the 'horns' gesture that the lead singer frequently directed towards the audience. The only fault with the set was a break half way through during which the bassist and guitarist disappeared for a pint whilst the lead singer performed We Belong With the Dead a very slow track which allowed theaudience to get distracted and begin chatting amongst themselves, however they were soon won back. The set ended after an hour with two encores Song to Pan and a cover of Paint it Black which has
become the bands most popular song.

A band of huge energy and great stage presence Inkubus Sukkubus are much more than the sum of their CDs. You haven't experienced them until you'veseen them live.
