MINI MOVIE REVIEWS
Music and Lyrics: Drew Barrymore and Hugh Grant star in this romantic comedy. Both actors basically play themselves. They are likable and fun. You'll enjoy the movie, but (to steal a concept from the movie) the movie is a fluffy dessert. You'll need to see another film if you want a hearty dinner. We took our 11 year old son. There were some suggestive parts, but nothing that had me reaching over to cover his eyes or ears. PG-13; 3 Stars; 96 mins.
Stomp the Yard: I took my 21 year old niece to this one. We spent the first 15 minutes wondering what the heck we were doing watching this movie about street dancers with flashing lights, loud music, and cinematography that could cause seizures. We both thought it picked up when DJ (Columbus Short) headed off to college. It's too gritty for kids and I can't recommend it for theater viewing, but you may enjoy it on DVD. PG-13; 2 Stars; 115 mins.
The Brothers Grimm: My niece and I saw this on DVD. Oh. My. Goodness. Worst. Movie. Ever. What was Matt Damon thinking? A mess from start to finish. Even now I can't tell what the plot is supposed to be. Not suitable for anyone--certainly not for kids. PG-13; 0 Stars; 119 mins.
The Devil Wears Prada: I saw this on DVD. I usually like Anne Hathaway. This movie was just kind of there, however. I couldn't sympathize with the main character (Hathaway) who loses her way in her quest to work for a magazine. I couldn't sympathize with the antagonist (Meryl Streep) who is just a cold-hearted woman. There is just not much to care about here. Fashionistas may like it more than I did. PG-13; 2 Stars; 110 mins.
HARRY POTTER NEWS
Unless you live under a rock, I'm sure you heard that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (book 7) is coming out on July 21, 2007. I'm both excited and sad. Harry, Ron, Ginny, Hermione, Fred, George, Lupin, Neville, and Luna had all better live! Today it is 153 days until the release. This gives you approximately 25 days per book to reread the first 6.
SNOW FACTS
Did you know that Rochester, NY averages 94 inches of snow a year? This makes it the snowiest large city in the USA. In 1995, the city spent 3.7 million dollars on snow removal.
Mexico, NY shattered the snow fall record for NY last week with over 12 feet of snow falling in a week. The previous record was just over 10 feet.
All this makes last week's Chambana-area blizzard seem like a tempest in a teapot--right? Right?
By the way, that ground hog--Punxsutawney Phil--only has a 39% accuracy rate. Early spring my Aunt Fanny.
