November 12, 2006: Movie Review--Flushed Away
Flushed Away tells the tale of an upper crust mouse from Kensington. You think Roddy has the good life partying with the doll house crowd, but then tragedy strikes.  To quote the singing slugs, "Poor, poor Roddy is flushed down his own potty" into an under-London sewer city that closely mirrors the city up top. The exception being, of course, that this city is inhabited by mice, rats, and frogs.

Roddy tries to find his way home with the help of Rita, a ship's captain. The frog mob tries to stop them. Mayhem ensues--as one would expect from an Aardman picture.

Flushed Away
is funnier than last year's Wallace and Grommit  Curse of the WereRabbit movie from the same folks. Think more along the lines of Chicken Run and you'll have an idea of the fun you'll have.

The singing slugs steal the scene everytime they are onscreen and you'll leave humming some of the tunes and quoting the lines to each other.

I took eleven year olds--one of whom did not want to see the movie to begin with--and we all enjoyed it. My spouse now wants to see it and is angling to get the kids to go again with him next weekend. The kids are enthusiastic for the suggestion. A definite hit at my house.

84 minutes; rated PG; now playing; recommended for: families with kids; people who appreciate the World Cup and English humour.
