Fall 2009 Garage Sale

Member’s sale – Friday, October 9th, 7:15 p.m.

Public sale – Saturday, October 10th, 8:30a.m.-12:30p.m.

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Champaign

2101 South Prospect Ave. (Prospect and Devonshire)

Preparing your Items

Members who want to sell must have their items labeled before the Friday night sale.

·         Bring only spring/summer items for this sale.

·         Bring only kid related items; not household goods.

·         Items need to be clean and in good repair.

·         Labels should be 1”x 1” pieces of masking tape.

·         Print the number you were assigned for the sale in the upper left corner, the size/description of the item in the center, and the asking price in the lower right corner.

·         Price items in 25 cent increments to make checkout and accounting easier.

·         If the price is not negotiable, underline it so the other members will know not to lower your price.

·         If you have a two piece outfit, safety pin it together and write “set” on the label. Do not tape these items together as they may get separated.

     * If your tags don’t conform to these standards you may be charged an additional 5% of your sales.

Bringing Your Items to Sell

Members may bring their items to sell at 6:30 p.m. on October 9th.

·         Large ticket items, such as play equipment or strollers, will be sold by name drawing on Friday night. If you wish to purchase one of these items, be sure to sign the sheet attached to the item by 7:15. If your name is drawn, you will be able to purchase it.

·         The drawing for large ticket items will take place at 7:15 p.m.

·         Shopping will begin immediately after large ticket items are drawn.

·         You are not allowed to “set back” items you are interested in purchasing.

·         Only one person shopping per family is permitted unless you are an expectant mother. An expectant mother may have 1 helper.

·         No negotiating prices on Friday night.

All unsold items should be picked up at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.  Please let the garage sale committee know at check-in on Friday night if your intention is to donate unsold items. The club will donate unclaimed items to a worthy organization immediately after the sale.

Sign up for at least one shift

If you work a shift the club keeps 10% of your sales. The club keeps 20% from those who sell, but don’t work a shift. The club may take an additional 5% of your sales if your tags don’t conform to the tag standards.  The shifts will be as follows:

1     5:30 to 6:30 set up, plus straightening up after the members’ sale on Friday night;

2     7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Friday—tag large items and cashier for members’ sale;

3     8:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday;

4     11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (or whenever everything is cleaned up on Saturday).

**Those who work the last shift and stay until everything is cleaned up will get their money on the day of the public sale.  The treasurer will mail checks to everyone else.

New Sellers - If you are a new seller, we hope you will be able to come to the April meeting so we can give you a "new seller's packet" and a garage sale number. If you aren't able to attend this meeting, contact Laura Nagel and she can assign you a number to mark your items with.
