"Battle Rattle" is the equipment that we carry on our persons as soldiers for combat operations. Full Battle Rattle includes (from head to toe): Kevlar PASGT Helmet, Kevlar PASGT Vest, Load Bearing Vest (LBV), MOPP/JLIST Top, Promask Carrier, Promask, MOPP/JLIST Trousers, MOPP Overboots, MOPP Rubber Gloves, M-16 A2 Rifle, 7 M-16 Magazines, and BDU's (Battle Dress Uniform). Below are pictures that explain where, what , and how everything is used. In some of the shots I wore my coverals, so that you can distinguish the different parts, since they all blend in with the regular BDU's

Here you see the Kevlar PASGT (Personal Armor System Ground Troop) Helmet You will see many photos of this. The Kevlar Helmet is commonly refered to as your "kevlar" or "K-pot". US Soldiers are told constantly through training "your kevlar will protect you" - and while the PASGT Helmet will deflect most small arms rounds that strike it indirectly, it will not stop a direct hit from a small arms round. It is designed to stop shrapnel. The helmet weighs 4lbs.

The Load Bearing Vest is the system in which US Soldiers carry small arms ammunition, water, first aid supplies, grenades, and other materials such as flashlighs, untility-tools, bayonets, cigerettes, and cell phones. The LBV shown holds 6 30 round magazines for the M-16 rifle. 2 magazines per the top pockets, and 1 in the 2 lower pockets. A Soldier will carry a 7th magazine in the rifle, carrying a total of 210 rounds in his/her basic combat load. The two small pouches at the bottom hold grenades, and the plain OD Green square shaped pouch is the first aid pouch, holding a field dressing and a casualty feeder card. The canteen is under the arm on the right - holds 1 quart

Here you can see the promask carrier. Inside is the Promask (commonly called a gasmask by civilians), along with Skin Decontamination Kits ... which are used in the event of a Biological/Chemical attack. Soldiers are required to put this mask on in under 9 seconds while holding their breath and their eyes closed (to prevent contamination). For this reason, the mask is always located on the left leg. The promask gets really hot and sweaty inside even during winter. Breathing is harder and sounds like Darth Vader, especially with the voice transmitter on it. You also get tunnle vision and cannot see anything below your eyes. Eventually I will post footage of the procedure to put the mask on.

| Later I will post a picture of the PASGT Vest along with a complete view of Full Battle Rattle - to include the ICE Bag, which holds the JLIST suits and everything for a chemical attack. | |||||||||||||||||||
