Pictures of Kenya

Below you will find first a map of Kenya, and below that pictures from all over Kenya.  Also, I provided a little more information about myself and my reasons for making the site.

map

Rift Valley This is an image of the Kenyan countryside.  This is called the Rift Valley and is a platonic rift that occurs when two earth plates
begin to separate creating a deep valley. The rift valleys in East Africa are the  largest in the world.
downtown This is in the capitol city of Kenya, called Nairobi. This shot was taken downtown
fp This is along the beautiful Indian Ocean Coast .  The city of Mombasa is one of the most visited and famous port and beach cities in Africa.
kenya This is also downtown as well. The tall cylinder building is Kenya International Center.
mom tusks Famous tusks that welcome people into the city of Mombasa.
village Here is a picture of what a village in Kenya might look like. Villages are still plentiful, and are many miles away from the big cities such as Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu. Its important to realize that although this is the stereotypical view of Africa, there is much more as you have seen above.

A little more about me...

My name is Beverly Lwenya and I am from the beautiful country of Kenya.  I am a third year political science student at UC Irvine.  My research interests include international affairs.  I am currently pursuing a career in that field hopefully leading up to public policy or administration.  I have many goals including to be an ambassador, establish my own media company or non-governmetal organization.  In addition, I would like to be admitted to a graduate program relevant to my goals.

The reason that I chose to make a page such as this is because oftentimes Africa and Africans are portrayed in such a negative light by just about everyone.  People are very ignorant about modern day Africa, however the school system, both collegiate and elementary does nothing to alleviate this blatant lack of knowledge.  Also, people have the idea that those who are from Africa are ashamed of that.  I know that that is not true for most Africans I know and especially myself. This continent, proven to be the birth of the human race and the possible home of the Garden of Eden, has histories that run thousands of years longer than the more dominant European history that is taught to us.

That is why I am proud to showcase the more positive and uplifting factors in one of the best known African countries, Kenya
