| So our first real day of tripping...feels like a dream When we left the hotel this morning at 7:30 the exictement level was high, energy levels magnetic, and smiles radiant. It is, if anything, higher now (despite the three hours of sleep I caught and thereby subjected Jamie to). We stopped for beignets to bring back to the boat and found Elliott there ahead of us, with of all things, both dogs. I'd forgotten how compelling his sweet tooth is...I mean, consider it - one man, two large dogs in a BIG bustling open air shop. A shop whose floor is LOADED with powdered suger *belly laugh*. Wish I had a picture of it. Getting back to the boat, I felt the vague stirrings of disbelief and superstitious frenzy; the little yellow bird is back. Bold as brass, eating out of one of the dog bowls, as we came onboard. Tezza says it's been hanging around the boat for a couple of days. A harbinger of the glories ahead of us? Absolutely! I'm really pleased to report that the meteorologists down here have just as little knowledge of the true state of the weather as they do back in Minnesota *wry grin*. Forecasting thunderstorms and such, it is, at noon, 88 degrees the humidity has dropped back to 54% (it was at 94% last night). Partly sunny, the occasional cloud, we have taken this opportunity to revel in the moment and enjoy the sunshine on deck, catching up on sleep and chatter and the warm strength of our friendships... As we bid land adieu with a nostalgic wave and an eager glance to sea...well, river for the moment, I wave, my glance catching, for a moment, the emerald glitter of another's in my minds eye that leaves me with a soft, humble smile of delight... |
