Guy and the boys.....*mwa*!

We leave it to Destinys child to write about love when its hunky dory.  You need elbow for when your love lifes taken a batteringwere like therapy, but cheaper. Guy.

Formed in the early 90s in the post-Madchester environment by Pete Turner (bass), Richard Jupp (drums) and Mark Potter (guitars) Elbow were called Soft.  Craig Potter (Marks brother, keyboards) and Guy Garvey joined later, but not before Marks dislike of Guy was overcome (He was a hippy and into rave, it didnt seem right to talk to him at first Mark).  Signed by Island records then dropped in 1999 when the company was bought out the future was briefly uncertain for Elbow but they managed to secure a two EP deal with Uglyman records (they released
Newborn then Any Day Now) before signing to V2 in 2000.  After about 10 years of writing material, Elbow released Asleep in the Back in May 2001.  It was critically acclaimed earning them a Mercury Music Prize nomination (PJ Harvey beat them to the prize; What man would mind being beaten by PJ Harvey? Guy) and a Brit nomination for best new band.

The new album,
Cast of Thousands, is due out in August and according to Pete; we've ended up with the same sort of attention to detail and willingness to experiment. But it was made in a pressure cooker, so it has a very different vibe [to asleep in the back]."  Thats not to say Elbow have lost any of their dark intensity; I didn't expect to unearth any demons. But they came tumbling out, anyway." Guy.
