| The Band |
| "We're happier than pigs in shit, to be honest." Chris on the band's sudden success Comprising of Chris Martin (Vocals, acoustic guitar, piano), Guy Berryman (bass), Jonny Buckland (electric guitar) and Will Champion (drums) Coldplay formed in 1996 and took their name from a fellow band who discarded the name. With the exception of Guy all the band members are graduates of University College London (Chris first in ancient world studies, Jonny - 2.1 in maths and astronomy and Will - 2.1 in anthropology) Several EPs were released in varying quantities which helped to mark Coldplay as a bright new hope. The singles Shiver and Yellow meant it was only a matter of time before their epic debut was released, Parachutes. Hailed as one of the best albums of 2000 and gaining a mercury music prize nomination it catapulted Coldplay into the public consciousness, followed by two more highly successful singles (dont panic and trouble) the stage was set for world domination. 2002 saw the release of in my place which quelled rumours that there was to be no follow-up album. The 5 times platinum A rush of blood to the head came in August winning the Q award for best album, amongst others. Releases of the scientist, clocks and god put a smile upon your face ensured it has bothered the charts to this day. Chris Martin the thinking gay mans Will Young (Q, 197) Born in Exeter on the 2nd March 1977 Chris Martin is against pornography but for getting right inside a duvet cover when changing bed sheets. It is Chris lyrical spark which forms the basis for Coldplays sound. Guy Berryman He's not as scary as he looks - he's a lot nicer (Chris) Born on 12th April 1978 in Fife (Scotland) Guy spent periods of his youth trying to work out horrible prog rock stuff with ridiculous solos. We never got anywhere near it - we'd muck about and make a noise. in previous band Time Out. Jonny Buckland looks best naked (Chris) With a fans as loyal as the bands collected fan base Jonny Buckland doesnt have a lot to worry about He popped into the world on the 11th September 1977 in Mold (North Wales). The verdict on how hed cope with the band splitting up is still out; If this all ended tomorrow, we'd still be doing it". Will Champion a human jukebox, he's more a guitarist than a drummer (Chris) The baby of the band having been born on 31st July 1978 in Southampton he appreciates the finer things in life like Rainbow; George - the nation's first explicitly gay TV puppet. I wonder what happened to George?" and came close to knowing a little to much about masturbatory behaviour of gorillas thanks to his socio-biology lecturer. Beautiful. |
