Holistic Power of Silence
Holism in CHRISTIAN MEDITATION
Our recent avathaar, Meher Baba, observed silence for the major part of His life on earth.
The explanatation He gave for it (while communicating on his letter-board or later on by signs of the hand) was that all, that had to be said, had already been said by previous avathaars and that there was nothing new to be added by Him.
His task, as the New Avathaar in the line, was, however, to complete the spade- work done by earlier avathars and perfect masters, by synthesising and integrating holistically, diverse forms of religious thought present in the religious world, and fulfil the needs of practical sprituality in the New Age.
Such a holistic approach, to Divine Reality, that assists and fulfils the common spiritual endeavour of all religions and sects, is presented, by Him, in His Magnus Opus, "God Speaks", and is elaborated in other writings.
His golden words, "I shall bring all religions together like beads on a single string", gives out the secret of what he set out to achieve: i.e. laying a strong and healthy foundation, during His life-time, for healthy progress of religion as a part of common man's evolutionary struggle.
This is similar to what Jesus had said "On this Rock (Peter) I shall build my Church": a great prophesy that came to pass in spite of the limitations of the actors involved in the drama that unfolded itself over the centuries.
Baba's work now constitutes a step forward, in a new direction, to democratise, universalise and integrate all forms of spiritual endeavour to enable evolution to progress without any hitch in the future.

I always ignorantly wondered how Avathar Meher Baba's SILENCE would achieve such a superhuman task and save the world.
For, unless the disparity among religons is dissolved by holistic synthesis of all religious approach and thought, religions will not allow humanity to exist in peace.
Not only that, but greater dangers may follow this stagnation in human evolution leading to loss of human values and destruction of the very foundation on which civilization was built, step by step, by the supreme sacrifices of great spiritual leaders of all time.

I am now happy, however, to announce that all such questions have found apt answers in Shri Christopher Mendonca's short and powerful essay, "Christian Meditation: Power of Silence", contributed to the feature, "Speaking Tree", appearing in The Times of India (September 14th, 2004).
I pray to all Baba lovers to get enlightened by this essay and feel encouraged that the time will surely come, in the very near future, when Baba's prophesy will be fulfilled just as that of Jesus and other prophets and perfect masters of the past have been fulfilled over the ages.

In this context, we should also remember the prophesy of Sadguru Upaasani Maharaj of Saakori ( Maharashtra), the great disciple of Sadguru Shirdi Sai Baba and also the enigmatic but revealing words, said by Mahatma Gandhi, to silence his travel companions' doubts, when he reached London, for his historic conference, having met and had long discussions with Avathar Meher Baba on the high seas.
